In a statement after the party’s state committee meeting that analysed the ruling Left Front’s poll debacle, the CPI-M stressed on taking corrective steps and sought criticism and advice from the people.

“We can’t ignore the need to overcome our flaws in running the party, LF, government, rural and urban local bodies and conducting continued and intensive mass contact programmes,” the statement said.

“The Left parties had fought the elections in several states with some non-Congress and non-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parties… But the front which was formed in some states shortly before the polls has not been accepted by the people as a stable and dependable alternative,” it said.

The party expressed its apprehension that the opposition could try to render the government ineffective by putting up obstacles in the way of implementing pro-people policies.

“We have to be prepared to face the multi-pronged attacks and efforts to create anarchy. Besides the opposition may blame the government for failing to implement policies and programmes,” it said.
