Nation stands behind govt, army in fight against terror: Pakistani PM

Peshawar, Pakistan : Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that the entire nation is supporting the Government and the Army and the political and military leadership are united in the fight against terrorists.

“We will have to win this war at any cost as we cannot afford to lose it”, he told a high level meeting held at Governor’s House under his chairmanship.

The Prime Minister was briefed on the overall security situation in the province and the federally administered tribal areas and the assistance being provided to the IDPs of South Waziristan Agency.

He said said that terrorists will be chased and crushed everywhere in Pakistan where they challenge the writ of the government, kill innocent people including women and children, destroy schools or disrupt civilian life.

Appreciating the performance of police and law enforcement agencies, the Prime Minister said that all available resources would be utilized for their capacity building, equipment and training.

He also announced the establishment of a Shuhada Trust for the children of police personnel and LEAs in NWFP for which the seed money will be given from the Prime Minister’s Fund.

He also announced a package worth Rs. 50 million to be given as compensation to the victims of terrorism.

He also directed Minister of State for Finance Hina Rabbani Khar for the immediate release of funds for the establishment of a Trauma Center in Peshawar.

To make the Provincial Disaster Management Commissions more effective and responsive, the Prime Minister asked the Chief Ministers of the four Provinces to improve the working of these commissions to effectively meet exigencies and provide immediate relief in emergency to the people.

He also asked the Governor NWFP to prepare a comprehensive report on FATA regarding pre and post operation requirements within the shortest possible time and submit it to the federal government.

While discussing the security situation, the Prime Minister said that the government will effectively check cross border terrorism and will leave no stone unturned to defeat the enemies. He asked the Interior Minister to review policy regarding Explosive Act.

He said that the terrorists have no ideology and religion and we will have to emerge triumphant in the war against terror. “Defeat is not our option,” the Prime Minister said.

Earlier, the Prime Minister and participants of the meeting offered fateha for those killed in the Meena Bazar Peshawar bomb blast and expressed solidarity with their relatives.
