Kochi: The general public should be aware of the attempts to spread communalism in the Kerala society in the name of the imaginary organisation called ‘Love Jihad’, said the joint statement of cultural leaders. The statement was signed by several social and cultural leaders like Js VR Krishna Iyer.
The statement said that the Kerala society should be ready to defend the fascist moves to create mistrust and fear among communities by giving a communal colour to the love affairs in campuses. There is a move to make the romances and love marriages that take place without any religious or caste consideration as tools for communalism. This is a challenge against the secular culture of Kerala.
Such controversies are empowered by the fascist mentality which questions the individuals’ right to choose. What is projected in this propaganda is the feudal male chauvinistic rationality that women are uncreative beings who can’t decide their own lives. The attitude of the media and the communal organisations that uphold the propaganda about the ‘Love Jihad’, which is not supported by facts, should be changed. The statement demanded that cultural Kerala should dare to defend, realising the politics behind the ‘Love Jihad’ controversy.
