Srinagar: A top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) guerrilla was Tuesday killed in an ongoing gunbattle in north Kashmir, according to a senior police officer.
The police officer said that security forces early Tuesday morning surrounded Sheikhpora Rafiabad village in Baramulla district in north Kashmir on specific information about presence of a group of militants in the area.
“As the security forces launched searches in the village, militants hiding in a house opened fire at the troops, who returned the fire. A gunfight ensued and so far the body of one top LeT militant has been recovered,” the officer said.
“The operation is still on,” he added.
The exchange of fire continued till Monday evening, which triggered panic and tension in the village, nearly 70 km from here.
