New Delhi : The government Wednesday said it will provide Rs.2,700 crore for the development of the national capital region (NCR).
“The NCR Planning Board has agreed to provide a total financial assistance of Rs.2,700 crore for 2009-10 and 2010-11,” Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy said here at the 31st annual meeting of the board.
The board has also decided to raise Rs.8,000 crore from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the World Bank and the domestic capital market for meeting the investment target of Rs.15,000 crore during the 11th plan period that ends in 2012.
Highlighting the decision taken at the board meeting, Reddy said the revised budget of the board for the current year and for the next year had also been approved.
The board has also cleared the inclusion of three more towns — Ambala in Haryana, Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and Dehradun in Uttarakhand — into the group of the “counter- magnet cities” to reduce the burden on Delhi, which is a “magnet city”.
The five existing counter-magnet cities are Hissar, Bareilly, Kota, Gwalior and Patiala.
