New Delhi: A city court Wednesday allowed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader Kobad Ghandy to be sent to Andhra Pradesh on transit remand, allowing the state’s police to interrogate him.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja allowed the plea of the Andhra police and asked the Tihar jail superintendent to prresent Ghandy before the court by Nov 20.
In its application, the Andhra police said Ghandy was wanted in a case registered with the Karimnagar (rural) police station in 2008.
Ghandy, apprehended here Sep 20, has been booked under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. He is in judicial custody till Nov 27.
Ghandy’s release, along with two other leaders, was reportedly demanded by Maoists for the safe return of abducted Jharkhand Police Inspector Francis Induwar, who was later beheaded near Ranchi last month.
