Sonu, a metal merchant from Faridabad, was allegedly thrashed by the police personnel July 30 after he took an injured man to a hospital near the Welcome Metro Station in northeast Delhi.

Sonu’s mother alleged that she paid Rs.5,000 in bribe to make the police free her son who was illegally detained.

A division bench of Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar asked the police to complete the inquiry within two weeks and submit a detailed report by Dec 9.

The court Wednesday pulled up the police for shoddy investigation and asked: “Why was the statement of the victim (Sonu) not registered despite our directions two months back?”
