Imphal: At least three people, including two paramilitary troopers, were injured in a grenade attack on an Assam Rifles security patrol van near a crowded marketplace in Manipur Thursday, officials said.
A police spokesperson said motorcycle borne militants lobbed a grenade at a patrol vehicle of the paramilitary Assam Rifles in the capital city Imphal around 5.45 p.m. Thursday.
“Militants on a motorcycle lobbed a grenade at a patrol vehicle of the Assam Rifles, injuring two security personnel and a civilian standing nearby,” a senior police official said.
The injured were shifted to a local hospital with multiple injuries. The condition of one of the paramilitary troopers was stated to be critical.
The identity of the militants was not immediately established.
There was utter chaos and confusion soon after the grenade attack as the area was crowded with evening shoppers and vendors.
A massive hunt is on to nab the militants, police said.
