Bhopal : Congress legislator Brijendra Singh Rathore, who is wanted in connection with the killing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sunil Nayak, took oath in the Madhya Pradesh assembly Monday.
Rathore was elected from Prithvipur assembly constituency in Tikamgarh district during state assembly polls held in November last year but could not take oath since he was absconding after he was accused of murdering Nayak. The victim was the BJP candidate from the constituency.
Nayak was shot dead minutes after polling for the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections came to an end on Nov 27 last year. While Rathore’s brother Yashpal Singh and another relative Rampal Singh were arrested soon after the murder of Nayak, the legislator absconded.
His interim bail applications were rejected first by the District and Sessions Court and later by the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Rathore, however, got relief from the Supreme Court last week and took oath Monday.
Later while talking to reporters, Rathore criticised the police for increasing crime in the state. “On the one hand crime is rising in the state in leaps and bounds and on the other, the police are busy framing innocent people in false cases,” he said.
