10 dead, 40 hurt in Peshawar blast

Peshawar : At least 10 people were killed and about 40 injured Friday in a bomb blast that ripped through a bustling market in this Pakistani city.

The explosion occurred around noon at the Karachi Bazaar, close to the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) assembly.

Geo TV quoted official sources as saying that 10 people had died in the NWFP capital, about 150 km from the Pakistan capital Islamabad, while as many as 40 injured people had been rushed to Lady Reading hospital.

The powerful explosion damaged several vehicles parked nearby and caused panic in the area.

Police and army soldiers have cordoned off the area.

Some witnesses said that the explosion was a suicide attack; however, there was no official version on the blast.
