Islamabad: Sources in Pakistan’s security establishment have confirmed that educational institutions governed by armed forces will be shut for at least one week owing to security reasons, a report said Sunday.
The sources added that the administration of army public schools, Fazaia schools and colleges and navy schools and colleges have unanimously decided this on the basis of an intercepted telephonic conversation between two terrorists planning to hijack the students’ bus of a renowned educational institution.
The report also said that the security establishment suspects such attacks in the wake of ongoing army operations in the troubled south Waziristan.
The examination schedules of these schools have been changed, an Online news agency report added.
The report added that renowned private schools are also considering to close down for a short duration due to security concerns.
The Pakistani military is currently engaged in a major offensive against the Taliban in south Waziristan region bordering Afghanistan.
The offensive comes after the security forces cleared four districts, including Swat, of the Malakand division in the North West Frontier Province of the Taliban.
The militants, in a desperate bid to stave off the current operations, had attacked the Pakistani military headquarters Oct 10 and three police establishments in Lahore Oct 15. Forty-four people were killed in the two assaults.
