Bangalore : With five new swine flu deaths being reported from Karnataka, the death toll due to the H1N1 virus in the state has reached 62, a health official said here Sunday.
Two deaths due to swine flu were reported from Bangalore, and one each in Hubli, Gadag and Gulbarga.
However, the report confirming that all five tested positive for the virus was received only on Sep 12, the health official said.
Bangalore victims include a 62-year-old woman who died in a private hospital Sep 8 and a 44-year-old-man who expired in a government hospital on Sep 10.
Moreover, a one-year-old infant boy succumbed to the virus at a government hospital in Hubli on Sep 1.
The fourth and fifth H1N1 victims include a 28-year-old man who died at a private hospital in Gadag on Sep 9 and a five-year-old boy who died at a private hospital in Gulbarga on Sep 8.
In order to control the rising number of H1N1 flu deaths in the state, Karnataka’s health department has decided to take up a surveillance programme.
“Experts from health department will survey areas and families affected by the flu. Firstly, we’ll conduct a door-to-door survey in Bangalore Urban district. The programme will soon start,” Karnataka principal secretary (Health) I.R. Perumal told IANS.
Meanwhile, 29 fresh cases tested positive for the H1N1 Influenza with 24 cases reported only in Bangalore, four in Mysore and one in Gulbarga. Till date 737 people have tested positive for flu in the state.
