Kozhikode : Stating that he had “nothing to hide”, Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan Sunday asked those who have alleged his son’s link-up with criminals involved in the murder of Muthoot business group scion Paul M. George to come forward with the evidence.
Balakrishnan said this to reporters after state Youth Congress president M. Liju alleged that it was Balakrishnan’s son Bineesh Kodiyeri who was protecting one of the murder accused, Om Prakash, when he was in Dubai.
“I request those who have voiced the allegation to hand over all the evidence,” said Balakrishnan.
Paul M. George, 32, son of Muthoot Finance Group chairman M.C. George, was killed Aug 21 midnight near Alappuzha while he was travelling in a car with Om Prakash and P. Rajesh, who face several criminal cases.
Eyebrows were raised when the police arrested 19 others but did not arrest the two.
Early this week, the men surrendered in a court in Tirunelveli and the next day they were handed over to the Kerala Police. They are in judicial custody.
“We have nothing to hide and investigation in the case is going ahead in the right direction. It is unfortunate that a section of the media and political parties, for some reason, have been trying to mislead the investigation by coming out with stories and theories. This will not help. Let the court decide if the investigation was right or wrong,” said Balakrishnan.
Three top Congress leaders Ramesh Chennithala, V.M. Sudheeran and Kannur Lok Sabha member K. Sudhakaran had in three separate meetings with the media Saturday said they suspected foul play in the probe into the George murder case.
Chennithala also alleged that Pinarayi Vijayan, state secretary of Kerala’s ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), had a “hidden agenda” in the probe into the murder.
