New Delhi : The Indian government has appointed senior foreign service officer Vijay Keshav Gokhale as the country’s next high commissioner (ambassador) to Malaysia.
A career diplomat, Gokhale is currently a joint secretary in charge of China and East Asian nations in the Ministry of External Affairs here.
He will succeed Ashok Kantha who had been posted as Indian high commissioner to Sri Lanka.
Gokhale, who holds a Masters degree in history, joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 1981. The 50-year-old IFS officer is married to Vandana and they have a son.
His first overseas posting was as third secretary to Hong Kong in 1982 and his last foreign assignment was as the deputy chief of mission at the Indian Embassy in Beijing in 2000.
