The crime drama unfolded Friday night when one of the family members was overpowered by five armed men outside his house in Palam Vihar area of Gurgaon, adjacent to New Delhi, when he returned from work at around 9.30 p.m.

“There were around seven family members inside the house. One of the members, who returned from work at around 9.30 p.m., was overpowered by the five robbers outside his house. Three of them fled with his car while two forcibly entered the house,” S.S. Deswal, Gurgaon police commissioner, told IANS.

“They were carrying revolvers, knives and sharp-edged weapons and demanded all the money and valuables from the residents. In the meantime, one of the family members managed to sneak out of the house and informed the police,” he said.

Police then reached the spot and first appealed to the robbers to surrender but a gunfight ensued after the robbers fired at the policemen.

“The criminals opened fire at us and in retaliation we had to fire back, killing two of them. The family is safe and we have recovered two pistols and a mobile phone from the robbers,” Deswal said.
