Abu Dhabi: Students, teachers and parents are together attending workshops in UAE schools to learn tips from experts on how to tackle diabetes.
More than 250 teachers and school nurses participated in various workshops organised in Al Fujairah and Al Ain to raise awareness about diabetes as part of the three-year-long campaign launched by the ministries of health and education in cooperation with Sanofi-Aventis Gulf.
Launched in December last year, the campaign aims to educate teachers, school nurses, students and parents with the dangers of Diabetes “Type II”.
“The ministry aims for educating the community and increasing awareness about the risks of diabetes and ways of prevention as part of the national strategy for the prevention of diabetes,” Mahmood Fikri, Chairman of the Higher National Committee for Fighting Diabetes, said.
The campaign provides practical advices on the ways of protecting the younger generations from diabetes, Fikri said adding that in three years time the workshops will motivate the new generations to follow a healthy lifestyle and prevent diabetes.
