Bhubaneswar: Two more people have died of sunstroke in Orissa, taking the toll due to heat wave in the state to 10, the state government said Wednesday.
“We have confirmed two more deaths due to sunstroke, one each in the districts of Dhenkanal and Bolangir. They died April 8 and 19, respectively,” B. Singh, officer on special duty in the state revenue control room, told IANS.
Local media reports and non-official sources, however, put the toll since March at 60.
Orissa is reeling under intense heat wave with some areas witnessing temperatures over 46 degrees Celsius.
The industrial town of Talcher in Angul district, 169 km from here, recorded a maximum of 46.2 degrees Celsius Wednesday.
Several other places, which recorded high temperature include Sambalpur (45.6), Baripada (45.3) and Jharsuguda (45.2 degrees Celsius).
Temperature in state capital Bhubaneswar and nearby Cuttack city recorded 39.9 and 39.0 degrees Celsius respectively.
