Collecting waste to break Guinness record

Abu Dhabi : Students from the Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) collected 394 kg of plastic waste in an attempt to break the previous Guinness World Record of 298 kg for the most plastic bottles collected for recycling in eight hours.

Student Council President Mariam Omran Al Hallami said: “After the success of our attempt we are sending the collected bottles for recycling and are currently waiting for the announcement of our accomplishment in breaking the previous record from the Guinness World Records committee”.

Osama Al-Alami, president of Zayed Environmental Impact Network (ZEIN), said: “This initiative is the result of joint work between Zayed University Student Council and ZEIN in an effort to shed light on the amount of plastic waste that can be collected for recycling.”
