Jethmalani to seek recall of Sohrabuddin case from CBI

By IANS,

Ahmedabad: Senior advocate Ram Jethmalani, who is representing Gujarat’s former minister of state for home Amit Shah in the Sohrabuddin Shaikh killing case, Monday said he intends to move the Supreme Court seeking recall of its order handing over investigations of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Addressing the media here, Jethmalani said that the CBI’s case lacked substance and did not have any “credibility”. “I still don’t know what their case is and what it is trying to prove,” he added.

Jethmalani blamed the media for “unfair” reporting.

“You have become the mouth piece of the CBI. You cannot do so. You are the jurors but the trial in the court is still on. My client is entitled to a free and fair trial so I request all of you to use your own judgment and write things only after checking the records.”

“You cannot run a simultaneous trial in the media. This is all a political game and the media should keep out of it,” he said.

Asked what his defence for Shah, who has also been accused of extortion, was, Jethmalani sought ten days to respond on the issue. “We’ll all meet up again after ten days and that time I will reveal things which will be shocking,” he said.

Asked for his personal opinion in the matter, he said: “What I personally feel or believe is a different thing which I can’t speak about as an advocate for my client”.
