Malappuram: A meeting of Muslim organizations held at Kottakkal decided to organize campaigns against extremism, terrorism and communalism. The meeting was convened by Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal, state president of Muslim League on Saturday.
However, organisations such as the Popular Front of India, Jamat e Islami and the People’s Democratic Party were not invited to the meeting. The Muslim Service Society and the Indian National League were reportedly invited but did not attend the meeting.
The meeting was convened as a continuation of the meetings convened by former League president Syed Muhammedali Shihab Thangal at times when issues affecting the Muslim community in general took place, said Muslim League general secretary PK Kunhalikkutty to media persons. The terrorist activities carried out by a minute minority in the Muslim community have reached a situation as to harm the whole community. The meeting was convened in the wake of the attack on the professor and the widespread police raids that followed. Different organisations have stated clearly that such activities have no Islamic justification, he said.
The meeting decided to hold strong campaigns to create awareness among the common public, however, the campaigns will be organised by different organizations individually. Combined campaigns may also be organized if necessary. There will not be any cooperation with such organizations including the Jamat e Islami and the PFI in future also. Such organisations will be isolated, Kunhalikkutty added.
PK Kunhalikkutty, MP Abdussamad Samadani (national secretary), PV Abdul Wahab (former MP) and Abdurahman Randathani represented the Muslim League in the meeting presided over by the League president Hyderali Shihab Thangal. Prof KMA Raheem and PKM Saqafi Iringallore (AP Sunni faction), K Mammad Faisy, Nasar Faisy Koodathayi, PInangode Aboobaker and KNS Moulvi Thiruvanbadi (EK Sunni faction), TP Abdullakkoya Madani and AP Abdul Qader Moulvi (President and general secretary of Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen), DR EK Ahmed Kutty, CP Umer Sullami and PT Veeran Kutty Sullami (Nadvathul Mujahideen), Kadakkal Abdul Azeez Moulvi, Thodiyoor Muhammed Kunhi Moulvi and Adv KP Muhammed (Dakshin Kerala Jamiyathul Ulema), Dr Fasal Gafoor and CT Sakkir Hussain (president and secretary of MES), PE Ashraf Moulvi (KMF) and KT Muhammed Aslam Moulvi (KMYF) took part in the meeting.
Late Muslim League president Syed Muhammedali Shihab Thangal used to convene such meetings of all Muslim organizations at times when the Muslim community faced grave problems. Such meetings also led to the formation of common forums where the organizations with different political views came together to discuss problems of the community. However, the present meeting has set a difference from the previous meetings by the absence of certain organisations. While the Jamat e Islami, the PFI and the PDP were not even invited to the meeting, the INL and the MSS were reportedly invited but did not attend. The Muslim League had recently announced that they would have no ties at all with the Jamat even as a religious organisation as the latter had decided to enter election politics. The PFI had supported the League in the past but has now decided to enter the election politics through the SDPI. The PDP has always supported the LDF in elections.
