Mumbai: Offering a ray of hope against recurrent In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) pregnancy failures, a leading hospital here is offering metabolomics profiling that will enable doctors shift from multiple to single embryo transfer.
“We, at Lilavati Hospital, are the first in Asia to have installed the technology which assesses embryos with respect to their viability and implantation potential,” said Hrishikesh Pai, joint-head of the hospital’s IVF Centre.
“The availability of metabolic profiling will enable doctors to shift from multiple embryo transfer to single embryo transfer,” he explained, adding: “We will also see that this is available at a reasonable cost to our economically weak patients, especially at the Dr. D.Y. Patil IVF Centre which is in a medical college.” Pai said.
The facility was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and Tripura Governor D.Y. Patil.
One of the most significant goals of IVF practitioners is decreasing the number of multiple gestations while maintaining or improving the overall pregnancy rates.
The Lilavati IVF Centre aims to improve results in patients who have failed at IVF by using the test to select the best embryo which will yield a higher pregnancy rate.
“Lilavati Hospital IVF Centre is one of the leading units in India curing infertility since the last 20 years. We have always been striving to introduce the latest technologies in the field of reproductive medicine for the benefits of our patients,” said Nandita Palshetkar, joint-head of the hospital’s IVF Centre at the hospital.
“Patients can be cured by a variety of techniques such as assisted laser hatching and vitrification (a new technique freezing eggs). Metabolomics truly is a milestone towards achieving high success rate especially in case of recurrent IVF failures,” Palshetkar added.
