PDP demands release of all political prisoners, youths

Srinagar: Demanding immediate release of all political detunes and hundreds of young people, who have been rounded by recently, Peoples Democratic Party today, welcomed the move to seek intervention of Syed Ali Shah Geelani in restoring peace and to solve the present crises.

In a statement issued here today, president of PDP Mehbooba Mufti said that by propagating the policy of using force and adopting coercion methods, the State Government has imprisoned a large number of political leaders and young boys only to cover up its own failure. She said that it is time that the political influence of other leaders like Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who has been under house arrest, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Shabir Ahmed Shah, Nayeem Khan, Zafar Ahmed Mir be utilized and all of them should provide free space to make their contribution in making peace.

Similarly the large number of youth who have been arrested on flimsy ground and framed in criminal cases should be immediately be set free to create atmosphere conducive for further political process. Mehbooba Mufti said that she hoped that release of various leaders and advice of Syed Ali Shah Geelani for peace is utilized as an opportunity for the large and bolder initiatives. She said that PDP has been stressing on the involvement of all political parties and leaders to find the solution of the problems of State and has been constantly cautioning against compartulisation of political parties. She said that all citizens and political parties of the State have to contribute the exercise and there should be no discrimination or division among them.

It has been the constant demand of the PDP that problems of Jammu and Kashmir can not be resolved unless it actually resolves through meaningful political initiatives. She said that it was high time for the Government of India to wake up to resolve the problem with meaningful political process and with humanitarian approach. She cautioned against taking cosmetic measures or bureaucratic rhetoric. She further said that PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had advised even after last assembly elections, in which more than 60 percent of people had voted, this turnout should not misread as disappearance of Kashmir problem. She, however, said that it was unfortunate that advice was not heed in time which led to killing of large number of people and economic loss also.
