Patna: In his first major step for minorities in the state since he assumed office for second term, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on December 13 decided to appoint minority welfare officer in all 38 districts of Bihar. To ensure implementation of minority welfare schemes, the government will also form state-level and district-level monitoring committees.
The decision to the effect was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by the CM here on Monday. The meeting was called to review minority welfare schemes. Nitish-led National Democratic Alliance (comprising JD-U and BJP) got landslide victory in the assembly poll held in October-November 2010. Nitish and his ministers were sworn in on November 27.
The CM reiterated that his government is committed to work for the betterment of all sections of the society especially the downtrodden. He directed the ministers and officials to take all the possible steps to bring the minorities to the mainstream of the development. He was of the opinion that if the schemes started by the government for minorities are implemented affectively, their situation will be changed. Therefore, it is time to speed up the work for the implementation of the schemes on ground level. He assured that money will not come in the way for schemes.
Besides the CM, the meeting featured Shahid Ali Khan, Minister of Minority Welfare, Social Welfare Minister Parveen Amanullah, Chief Secretary Anoop Mukherji, Home Secretary Amir Subhani who is also Principal Secretary of Ministry of Minority Welfare and others.
