BJP leaders questioned Karkare’s integrity, asserts Digvijay

Guwahati : Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh Tuesday asserted that Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare received threats from Hindu fundamentalists and accused senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani of doubting the integrity of the slain police officer.

“I have no reasons to lie and nor have I questioned the investigation process as it is very clear that Pakistani terrorists were involved in 26/11. All I want to say is that the BJP is master of double speak,” Singh told journalists in Guwahati.

“I want to know why Advani and Rajnath Singh questioned or doubted Karkare’s integrity when he was instrumental in arresting both Muslim and Hindu terrorists. Advani and Rajnath Singh have no right to question or doubt his integrity as it demoralized him a lot.”

Singh earlier claimed that the ATS chief had called him hours before he was killed in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack and told him about threats from Hindu organisations, as he was probing the Malegaon blast case in which members of some Hindu groups were allegedly involved.

Attacked by the BJP over his statement, Digvijay has promised to prove the telephone call with Karkare with solid proof from the telecom department.

“I have been communicated by the BSNL that call records were available for only a year, although I have sought the telecom ministry’s help in trying to retrieve call records from their server in Pune,” Singh said.

Singh said he stood by his comments. “I am absolutely certain of what I have said, I stand by what I have said.”
