New Delhi : The Delhi Traffic Police Wednesday issued a traffic advisory for Friday on the occasion of the tenth day of Muharram, suggesting the routes to be avoided.
“Around 265 Tazia processions will be taken out from all parts of the city commencing Thursday from 9 p.m. onwards. Most of the processions will culminate at Karbala (Lodhi Colony),” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg.
According to police, the processions will affect vehicular movement, including public transport, in almost all parts of the city throughout Friday.
“Those going to New Delhi Railway Station Friday should leave in advance and have sufficient time for possible delay on routes. People should avoid Connaught Place,” said Garg.
Almost all of Old Delhi and places like Connaught Place, Sansad Marg, Vijay Chowk, Tughlak Road in central Delhi and Aurobindo Marg and Jorbagh Road in south Delhi will be the most affected.
“The procession will also cause diversions in the routes of many buses as several roads will have to be closed temporarily for vehicular movement. So, the best way to avoid any inconvenience would be to use the Metro,” added Garg.
There is a likelihood of congestion of traffic along the routes of the procession. So, motorists are advised to avoid these routes and follow the directions of the traffic policemen posted all along the route of procession to avoid inconvenience, he added.
