Geneva : The Swiss defense ministry announced Wednesday that three Russian officers will start Wednesday military security checks at the sites of Berne, Yverdon, Bure, and Sarnen.
The military security checks comes at the request of the Russian Federation as a part of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and based on review of the provisions of the confidence-and security-building measures of the Vienna Document 1999, said the ministry in a press release.
The review will focus on troops’ visits, exchange of information on staffing levels, and the number and type of the main Swiss weapons systems.
The review of units is a part of confidence and security building measures in addition to the inspection of military activities of the two verification options.
It allows the basis of specified inspection rates every OSCE participating State to review during the annual exchange of information on military forces provided data on site.
