New Delhi : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Maneka Gandhi Wednesday said the country should stop exports of vegetables, rice and other essential items to control rise in food prices.
“I think that all exports of food items such as vegetables, rice and milk should be stopped until we solve the (problem of) malnutrition in the country,” Gandhi told IANS on the sidelines of The Indus Entrepreneurs summit here.
Gandhi felicitated Australian philanthropist and animal rights activist Philip Wollen at the summit.
According to her, export of food items was one of the main reasons for the rising prices of essential vegetable commodities such as onions.
She further said that cash crops such as soya beans were fast replacing other staple food crops and this was a worrying factor.
