New Delhi: The committee formed by Hockey India (HI) to look into the gradation of players met Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi and discussed payment-related issues here Tuesday.
Former India captains Ajitpal Singh, M.P. Ganesh, Zafar Iqbal, Dhanraj Pillay and Jagbir Singh (convenor) as well as HI president Vidya Stokes and secretary-general Narinder Batra met the men’s team captain Rajpal Singh and national coach Harendra Singh. Women’s captain Surinder Kaur and coach M.K. Kaushik were also present.
The group arrived at a broad understanding in four areas – gradation of players, payment of match fees, winning incentives and daily allowances for players during national camps and overseas trips.
“I had announced the formation of a committee to look into the financial security of players, past and present, when I met the players in Pune last month,” Kalmadi said. “I am happy Hockey India has taken the right steps in ensuring that the men and women players are awarded player contracts,” said Kalmadi.
