New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday made it clear it will stall the proceedings in the Lok Sabha Tuesday if the government does not agree to its adjournment motion on price rise.
“Why is the government afraid of the motion being admitted? If they do not allow it to be admitted, it would mean they are guilty conscious and feel that their partners are not happy with price rise,” S.S. Ahluwalia, BJP deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, told IANS.
“If the government does not agree to the democratic process, there could be trouble in the house,” he said.
BJP deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Gopinath Munde also said that if the adjournment motion is not admitted, the opposition would not allow the house to run.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said opposition move is not a threat the government.
“As far as the Rajya Sabha is concerned, the issue has been sorted out. But it seems to be difficult in the Lok Sabha,” said Bansal here.
The minister said the Rajya Sabha is likely to have a short duration discussion on price rise Tuesday.
Bansal said adjournment motion happens when there is an emergency situation and price rise has been continuing process for quite some time.
“This discussion doesn’t lie under adjournment motion,” the minister said.
“We are ready for discussion on the issue whole day,” Bansal told reporters.
Asked whether the government’s existence is threatened, if the adjournment motion is admitted, the minister said, “When it comes to voting, we are very confident”.
“We don’t fear anything,” he added.
