New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will leave for Kolkata Thursday morning to see former West Bengal chief minister Jyoti Basu, who is in a critical condition in a hospital, official sources said here.
“He will be leaving tomorrow (Thursday) around 11 a.m.,” an official at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) told IANS.
He is scheduled to chair the cabinet meeting in New Delhi Thursday.
Sources said the prime minister also spoke to West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee over telephone about Basu’s health.
The 95-year-old communist veteran has been put on ventilator since Wednesday morning. He has been hospitalised after an attack of pneumonia. He continued to be critical but doctors attending him said his condition had slightly improved Wednesday evening.
