Gurgaon: An 87-year-old man shot at and injured his grandson after the young man demanded his share of the prime property, worth Rs.200 crore, in Gurgaon, police said Thursday.
The victim identified as Manoj is critical and is recuperating at the Paras hospital here.
“We have arrested Sri Chand for attempted murder. He had a heated argument with his grandson last (Wednesday) night after which he fired a bullet from his licensed revolver,” said a senior police officer.
He said the bullet hit Manoj on his left chest and he was rushed to hospital.
Police sources said the Chand family had a dispute over the distribution of four acres land that the family owns in the posh DLF Phase I in Gurgaon.
“Chand, who has four sons and three daughters, owns four acre land which is worth Rs.200 crore. His grandsons wanted their share of the land and they used to have arguments regularly. On Wednesday night, the argument reached too far and Chand shot at his grandson,” said a neighbour of Chand, who didn’t want to be named.
According to police, Manoj reached his grandfather’s house at around 1.30 a.m. in the night.
“Chand was sleeping at that time but Manoj wanted to talk to him. We got a call at around 1.45 a.m. about the shooting and arrested Chand from his home,” the officer added.
Police said Manoj’s father Jagbir Singh too had a fight with his father when he learnt that he was about to give the property to one of his daughters.
“The family lives in Sikanderpur village in DLF area. A court case is also going on among the family. Manoj is not fit for the statement, though we have taken the statement of his cousin who was also present when the incident took place,” the officer added.
