Raipur: Opposition Congress legislators walked out from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-dominated Chhattisgarh state assembly Thursday after the speaker rejected their adjournment motion for discussion over the law and order situation in the state capital Raipur.
Congress legislators, who number 39 in a 90-member state assembly, sought discussion through adjournment motion over alleged rising incidence of murder, rape, loot and other crimes in Raipur in recent months.
They alleged that the law and order situation has collapsed in the capital city and the issue needs to be discussed thoroughly in the house.
The Congress legislators walked out after Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik rejected the motion, saying crime-related issues found mention in discussions in the house since the assembly session began Jan 11 and the house does not require a separate discussion on the subject.
