Kolkata: The authorities of Kolkata’s premier SSKM Hospital are gearing up to tackle an expected huge gathering of people during the final journey of deceased Marxist leader Jyoti Basu Tuesday.
With the former West Bengal chief minister donating his body for medical research in 2003, his party and family have decided to hand over the body to the state’s only referral hospital.
“We are taking all necessary precautions to tackle the huge gathering tomorrow (Tuesday). The public works department (PWD), which is in charge of the hospital maintenance, is looking after the issue,” an official of SSKM Hospital said Monday.
Declining to divulge any further details citing security reasons, the official said the body will enter the hospital through the VIP gate amid tight security cordon.
“We are not expecting to receive the body before 5 p.m.” SSKM Hospital’s anatomy department head Ashis Kumar Dutta said.
