By DPA,
Istanbul: Turkish police Monday arrested 20 suspected Al Qaeda members in a sweep in the city of Adana, the semi-official Anatolian Agency reported.
Some 300 police officers were involved in the operation, which targeted 25 homes in the city on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. Weapons and ammunition were confiscated during the raid, according to the report.
Turkish security forces have arrested dozens of suspected Al Qaeda members in recent years.
A shootout in early 2008 between the police and militants in the city of Gaziantep, in southeast Turkey, left one policeman and two of the suspected Al Qaeda members dead.
