New Delhi : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari is scheduled to visit Porbandar, the birth place of Mahatma Gandhi, Jan 30 to pay tributes to the Father of the Nation on his death anniversary.
BJP sources said that Gadkari will attend a prayer meeting at Porbandar. He will also announce extension of “Garib Kalyan Mela”, a welfare scheme of the Gujarat government, to Porbandar. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi would be present on the occasion. The state is observing 2010 as golden jubilee year of its formation.
The sources said that Gadkari will also unveil a statue of party ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyaya.
It will be Gadkari’s first visit to Gujarat after assuming charge as president of the party. He is scheduled to go to Karnataka Jan 31.
Gadkari had earlier visited Punjab where the BJP is sharing power with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
