India sends humanitarian aid to violence-hit Kyrgyzstan

New Delhi: Showing sympathy and giving positive response to the appeal for immediate aid by the Kyrgyz Government, India today sent IL-76 aircraft carrying food items, medicines and tents to help violence-hit civilians in Southern Kyrgyzstan.

India’s friendly Central Asian country Kyrgyzstan was rocked in mid June with the violence by Kyrgyz people who attacked on Uzbeks in its Southern part, burned down their homes and destroyed their shops and businesses. The incident killed hundreds of people and left thousands in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.

While normalcy has returned in the riot-affected area, Kyrgyz Government made an appeal to the world to help it to restore the situation there. In this hour of need, Indian Government stepped forward to strengthen the relation with its neighboring country by sending first of the two IL-76 aircraft left for Osh in Kyrgyzstan from New Delhi today. The aid will be delivered to the Ministry of Emergency Situation of Kyrgyzstan Republic of Osh, through Indian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan. The second IL-76 is scheduled to depart on July 8.
