Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Wednesday apprised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P.Chidambaram about the law and order situation in the Valley on a day when the army conducted flag marches in Srinagar.
“Chief Minister Omar Abdullah apprised the prime minister and the union home minister of the latest law and order situation in the Valley,” government sources said here, adding that he spoke to them on the phone.
Earlier in the day, Home Secretary G.K. Pillai held a closed-door meeting with Abdullah along with the director general (Military Operations), corps commander of the army’s Srinagar-based 15th corps and state director general of police.
Officials said the Valley was “tense but peaceful” Wednesday, a day after violent protests saw the killing of four people in firing by the security forces.
The Indian Army conducted flag marches through Srinagar to restore law and order, while curfew was in several places including Baramulla, Sopore, Pattan, Chadoora, Machua and Anantnag towns.
