New Delhi : Though ace sprinter Usain Bolt has ruled out his participation in the Commonwealth Games, Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi Friday stressed that India is trying hard to bring the best athletes to the country for taking part in the mega-event.
“We are trying our best that internationally renowned athletes come here and participate to make it worth watching and successful by their presence,” Kalmadi said at a seminar here.
When it was noted that Australian swimmer Ian Thorpe is also not expected to participate in the event, he said: “We have been approaching to the athletes in our best capacity. The final list of the athletes will be declared Sep 13.”
Kalmadi also said India was also confident of winning medals in the October 3-14 Games. “We have the best athletes today and we can rely. We are capable of winning more golds.”
According to Kalmadi, the confidence to host the best-ever Games is there as the dates for the event are drawing closer.
