Party sources said the party’s Central Election Authority (CEA) officials have asked the states to send them list of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) delegates in the next few days. They said that only about five states have sent the list of delegates so far.

According to the election schedule announced by the party, election of Congress president, state unit presidents and vice-presidents, treasurers, the state unit executive and All India Congress Committee (AICC) members is to be completed between July 5 and July 25.

A senior Congress leader said that party president Sonia Gandhi, heading the party since April 1998, is set to be re-elected but the date of her election had not been decided yet.

“The meeting of Congress Working Committee (CWC) will decide the date,” he said.

The rules provide that any ten delegates may jointly propose the name of any delegate for election as party president.

In the last phase of party’s organisational polls, election of CWC members will take place at the party plenary. The dates of plenary have not been decided as yet.
