Samacheer Kalvi: TN govt to take care of minority languages, says IUML MP

Chennai: Indian Union Muslim League MP from Tamil Nadu has indicated that the state government of DMK will take care of linguistic minorities while implementing the Samacheer Kalvi (Equitable System of Education) policy of two language formula i.e. Tamil and English being prime languages for 10th standard examination, being in force from this academic year.

Abdul Rahman, Lok Sabha MP of Muslim League from Vellore constituency, said that the Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu informed him that a Government Order is on the process with the consent of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. Giving relief to the linguistic minorities, the GO will maintain the status quo in the examination allowing the minority languages hitherto declared as optional will have as examination languages.

“We know the issue needs a deserving concern and on 9 June, there was a mammoth conference,” Educational Awareness Meet” at Pallapatti at Karur District. The School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu was the Chief Guest and we put forth the issue of “Samacheer Kalvi” (Equitable System of Education) as key resolution and the minister promised his help solving the issue,” says Rahman.

The linguistic minorities have been protesting Samacheer Kalvi policy through school unions, religious representations, and politicians. They knocked every door including the top judiciaries, but their efforts stood failed since Tamil Nadu government turned deaf ears.

MP Abdul Rahman says there was a press meet in Vellore (Vellore District) on July 4 and he narrated all the efforts taken by him on behalf of IUML to bring back the regular system of education in the school curriculum and it was conceded by the government of Tamil Nadu and the minister for school education Thangam Thennarasu informed him that official (Government) Order was on progression and expected within a week that would open the venue for minorities to enjoy their languages to be followed as usual in the examination. He also informed that H. Abdul Basith, MLA from Vaniyambadi (Vellore District), also raised this issue in the last sitting of the Assembly.
