No arrests have been made in this case yet, police said.

According to police, they were getting complaints for the last many weeks about touts who were helping unscrupulous elements procure arms licences through unfair means.

“We have registered a case against 23 persons under various sections and referred this case to our anti-fraud branch. The investigation is on and very soon we will make some arrests in this case,” Surinder Kumar, station house officer of Ferozepur, told IANS.

Talking about the modus operandi of the miscreants, Kumar said: “The touts were preparing files, using fake documents, for the issuance of arms under various categories.”

“They were using duplicate stamps and were also making bogus signatures of ADC (additional deputy commissioner), who issues arms licences,” he said.

Police said that touts were charging Rs.1,500-2,000 per file.

Ferozepur district, which shares international border with Pakistan, is over 250 km from state capital Chandigarh.
