The Municipal Valuation Committee (MVC) report prepared by a four-member Delhi government-appointed panel enlisted ways to increase property tax collection.

The MVC report, however, was not taken up for discussion in the Standing Committee and was given to a panel of councillors for studying it.

“It has been decided to upgrade 168 colonies’ category (used for calculating property tax) due to their proximity to Metro lines,” the report said.

Nine lakh properties in the city are paying tax to MCD but officials estimate 22 lakh more properties can be brought under the tax net.

Responding to this Commissioner K.S. Mehra said that an action plan on how and by when more properties will be brought under the tax net will be submitted in the next Standing Committee meeting.
