Cabinet decides to computerise all state treasuries

New Delhi : In a significant step aimed at enhancing the “efficiency and transparency of various state governments’ financial administration”, the union cabinet Thursday decided to computerise the treasuries of all states.

The decision to computerise the treasuries “in a fast, mission-mode project” at a cost of Rs.626 crore was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said.

Besides computerising the treasury operations, it would enable the treasuries to share their data with each other besides with various state finance departments and accountant generals’ offices.

The treasuries will also be able to share data with the Reserve Bank of India, various banks and the central plan Schemes monitoring system of controller general of accounts, she said.
