Shimla: A student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Roorkee was sent to 14 days judicial remand Saturday for allegedly murdering a woman IIT-Delhi student at a hotel here, police said.
“A local court (Saturday) sent Gaurav Verma, a third-year architecture student of IIT-Roorkee, who was arrested for murdering Pragati Tibberwal, to judicial remand till March 19,” Shimla Assistant Superintendent of Police Anand Dhiman told IANS.
Pragati, a 22-year-old student of textile engineering who came here with Gaurav Feb 26, was found murdered in their hotel room the next day. Gaurav was missing from the scene.
He was subsequently arrested from the Jagadhari railway station in Haryana Sunday morning, and confessed he murdered Pragati in a fit of rage around 1 p.m. Feb 26.
Pragati was a resident of Patna while Gaurav belonged to Manikapur in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district. They were friends for the last three years.
Police found photographs of the duo on Pragati’s laptop. Two knives, a broken liquor bottle allegedly used in the crime and a cake were also found at the scene.
