Lucknow: Youth affairs and women empowerment will hog the limelight during the upcoming annual convention of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) at Lucknow between March 19-21.
The board is meeting for the first time in Lucknow where the executive committee meetings will be held in Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulema while a Jalsa-e-Aam (open house) is scheduled in Aishbagh Eidgaah on March 21.
Outlining the agenda of the board’s conclave, Naib Imam, Aishbagh Eidgaah, Maulana Khaild Rasheed Farangi Mahli stated that a guideline will be formulated to create awareness among muslim youths and women about Islamic Shariah. “Lately muslim youths have drifted away from Islamic teachings, we need to bring them back to our fold besides presenting a true picture of our religion in the society,” he said. Farangi Mahli is also the organising secretary of the convention in Lucknow.
The board is also planning to issue guidelines in simple format to settle the controversial issue of ‘triple talaq’. “Several unpleasant incidents have occured due to lack of knowledge about the affairs of Islamic shariah. Such issues involving talaq serve as fodder for media and are exploited. A simple guidelines in do’s and don’ts format will be issued for general muslims to safeguard their interests,” he added.
The board will also discuss several court verdicts which are against tenents of Islam and will review the progress of establishing Darul-Qaza. “We need to act within legal purview for the judgements delivered by courts but are violating the shariah,” he said. Other issues as repurcrussions of communal violence bill on muslim fraternity, Liberhan commission report, review of Babri masjid case will also be taken up during the upcoming board meet.
Setting up a fund for muslim destiute women and providing them legal aid is also on the anvil.
The board will also elect its new president at the Lucknow convention. It is expected that present president, Maulana Rabey Hasan Nadwi, the rector of Nadwatul Uloom will be re-elcted for the post. The board since its inception in 1973 had sen four presidents which includes Maulana Qari Tayyab, Maulana Ali Miyan, Maulana Qazi Mujahidul Islam Qasmi and presently Maulana Rabey Hasan Nadwi. It has four Vice-Presidents including Maulana Salim Qasmi Deoband, Maulana Kalbe Sadiq, Maulana Fakhruddin Kichauchvi and Maulana Saeed Kaki. The post of general secretary is held by Amir-e-Shariat, Maulana Nizamuddin of Patna. The board has 251 members with 101 permanent invitees who elect the president.
