New Delhi: Smoking Huqqa and eating steaming hot Kichadi, sitting on their traditional chairs, hundreds of old men and youth of Muslim Meo community of Haryana and Rajasthan made their unique presence at Jantar Mantar. They were rallying to demand ST status to the Community like Mina, with a difference style.
All India Mew Muslim Vikas Sabha’s president Advocate Ranzan Choudhary while talking to TwoCircles.net said, “Meo and Meena are from the same clan and both tribes faced the same extent of atrocities while fighting against Britishers, thus they must be given rights and treated equally”. “While Meenas are enjoying status of STs and benefiting from various government schemes in different states but why Meo as are not getting the same,” he wonders.
The rally was organized on the martyrdom day of lesser known King Hassan Khan Mewati, the great symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity. Hassan Khan Mewati had laid his life while fighting against the army of Babar at Khanwa in 1527 AD along with 12,000 Mewati fighters. The Meo community is predominantly found in parts of Haryana, Rajasthan and others parts of the country.
