Hyderabad : An undertrial prisoner died Tuesday in an alleged attempt to escape from a jail in Andhra Pradesh’s Warangal town.
The prisoner fell down from the wall of Warangal Central Jail as he was trying to escape after scaling it. The jail personnel tried to shift him to MGM Hospital but he died on the way.
Police quoting jail officials said Narasimulu, a native of Inapur village of Warangal district, was an accused in a murder case. However, fellow prisoners alleged that Narasimulu committed suicide due to the alleged harassment by jail authorities.
In another incident in Suryapet town of Nalgonda district, an undertrial escaped from police custody.
A police officer said prisoner Narasimha Rao escaped while police were taking him from Rajahmundry Central Jail to Hyderabad for treatment. Police have launched a manhunt for him in Suryapet and surrounding areas.
