Curfew imposed in Old City area of Hyderabad at 7 pm

New Delhi: Compelled with the situation getting out of control, the Hyderabad Police has imposed curfew in Old City area in Andhra Pradesh capital at 7 pm today. The decision was taken reportedly after fresh communal clashes resulting in a ‘death’. According to local residents, the curfew has been imposed in South Zone of the city covering maximum part of the Muslim-dominated Old City.

Talking to TwoCircles.net half an hour ago, Aziz Ahmed, Assistant Editor, Etemaad Urdu daily said as fresh clashes erupted in some areas resulting in one death, the police have clamped curfew at 7 pm. Yesterday the police had issued Article 144 prohibiting gathering of 4-5 people. After murder today of a member of a particular community and knife injury to other several vehicles were put on fire by other community, forcing the authorities to clamp curfew.

Clashes began two days ago when a particular community began removing Eid Milad flags in Hanuman Nagar area of the city.

He said the clashes seem to be pre-planned. Soon after the Supreme Court order in favor of 4% Muslim reservation in the state, the clashes erupted.

During the day today United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi and union Home Minister P. Chidambaram spoke to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah over phone to inquire about the situation in Hyderabad after the communal clashes.

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) legislators have alleged in the Assembly today that the police deliberately “failed” to prevent the attacks on places of worship and houses of a particular community.
