Purshottam Rupala, former state unit chief of the BJP and the party’s national vice-president, threatened to intensify its agitation if the federal investigating agency “does not stop exceeding limit”.

“We will fight at all levels, on the streets, in parliament as well as in courts,” he said.

The ruling BJP is holding demonstrations across the state against the CBI and the central government to protest the arrest of an Indian Police Service officer in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh case. The case is being investigated by the CBI on a Supreme Court directive.

The party organised a demonstration outside the local CBI office and later took out a rally in Ahmedabad.

According to state party chief R.C. Faldu, the statewide protest programme was a success.

The Gujarat BJP May 2 alleged that the central government was misusing the CBI as a tool against the state government, and threatened a stir.
