Ghaziabad : At least a dozen armed men looted cash, jewellery and other articles worth over Rs.20 lakh from a businessman’s house in Ghaziabad, police said Saturday.
According to police, men armed with pistols, knives and iron rods barged into the house of steel pipe manufacturer Arvind Deewan at 12.30 p.m. Friday and took the family hostage.
They took jewellery worth over Rs.9 lakh including a diamond set, wrist watches, two mobile phones and Rs.11,37,000 in cash, police said.
The criminals held Deewan at gunpoint and instructed the women family members to give up their jewellery.
At the time of the robbery nine family members, including the businessman’s three bothers and a sister, were present in the house in Prakash Industrial Area on GT road.
“We have registered a case,” said Superintendent of Police (City) A.K. Vijaita.
